Nadeem Sheikh
Nadeem S. Sheikh FRSC is an Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry and Programme Leader for Chemical Sciences in the Faculty of Science at Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Dr Sheikh obtained his PhD in Organic Chemistry in 2008 from the University of Southampton, UK, under the supervision of Professor Richard C. D. Brown, where his research focused on the stereoselective oxidative cyclisation of 1,5-dienes and 1,5,9-trienes. He subsequently undertook postdoctoral research at the University of Sheffield (2008–2011) under the guidance of Professor Iain Coldham, working on the asymmetric substitution of organolithium compounds by dynamic thermodynamic and dynamic kinetic resolutions.
He has received several prestigious awards and honours, including the Overseas Research Students Award Scheme (ORSAS) award from Universities UK, as well as the Academic Roll of Honour and the Gold Medal for securing first position in his BSc degree. He currently serves as the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Representative in Brunei Darussalam and as the International Education and Outreach Representative for the Green & Sustainable Chemistry Division of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI).
His research is strategically aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3) and Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7). His interdisciplinary research portfolio encompasses computational investigation-driven organic synthesis and computational intelligence–driven molecular design for hydrogen energy and drug delivery systems.
