Jeffrey YW Mak
Jeffrey Mak (PhD) is a biomedicinal chemist at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience. After receiving a UQ University Medal, he undertook doctorate studies in natural product total synthesis with Prof. Craig Williams, before joining Prof. David Fairlie's group at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience, switching to the fields of medicinal chemistry and chemical biology. He was part of an Australian team that discovered the identity of a novel class of antigens that activate T cells. His current research focusses on developing new ligands that target histone deacetylases, as well as the discovery and development of new small molecule modulators of T cells. He is a former CAS Future Leader, and more recently, was recognised by the American Chemical Society as a Rising Star in Biochemistry and Chemical Biology.
