Rosemary Warren

Rosie Warren is an Early Career Researcher and Bachelor of Science (Honours) candidate at the School of Agricultural, Environmental and Veterinary Sciences (SAEVS) at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, N.S.W. Her previous awards are a BSc in Microbiology & Immunology and a Graduate Diploma of Medical Science, both from Charles Sturt. Her honours project—investigating the native Australian Indigofera australis subsp. australis plant as a novel source of blue indigo pigment, and the microbial communities and conditions associated with its fermentation—was initially borne of her creative and artistic passions, becoming what is now an academic pursuit in the fields of microbiology and sustainable chemistry. Her research represents the very first Western scientific efforts at establishing the presence of indigo pigment from native indigo plants, as well as the first verified method by which the pigment can be fermented, for use in bespoke natural textile creation and cross-cultural arts practices.
