Zhanying Zhang
Professor Zhanying Zhang leads the Bioprocessing and Biorefining Group at QUT. The group is dedicated to developing advanced biomass processing and biorefinery technologies to add value to agricultural, forestry, and food industry waste. Their work focuses on producing high-value functional materials, such as nanocellulose, nanosilica, and carbon-based electrode materials, for (bio)composites and energy storage applications. Additionally, the group also develops high-value functional ingredients, including polyphenols, prebiotics, and pectin, for food and feed applications.
Professor Zhang’s research has garnered strong support from various industry partners. His technologies have been licensed to two Australian companies, one of which has already achieved successful commercialization. Professor Zhang was awarded an ARC Mid-Career Industry Fellowship in 2025.
