Dr Grant Douglas is a geochemist and Director of Eutectiq Pty Ltd and was formerly a Senior Principal Research Scientist in CSIRO Environment. He has over 35 years of experience in surface, groundwater, and sediment geochemistry, radiogenic isotope geochemistry, aquatic system management and contaminant and wastewater remediation. Other research activities include the identification of sediment sources in aquatic systems and the characterisation and reuse of mining/mineral processing waste materials. Dr Douglas has also worked extensively in the characterisation of PFAS in concrete and asphalt for the AU and US DoDs. Dr Douglas developed and patented the phosphorus-adsorbing clay Phoslock⢠used to mitigate algal blooms, which has been commercialised worldwide and is currently used in over 25 countries. Phoslock⢠research is also the basis of, at its peak, a $900M+ ASX-listed company. Dr Douglas also commercialised Virtual Curtain, a patented acid surface, groundwater, and wastewater treatment. The Virtual Curtain technology has been successfully applied to treat acidic mine pit waters in Australia and for the treatment of 7 GL per annum of coal gasification wastewater in China. The Virtual Curtain technology is also the basis of a major US DoE/NAWI research project. Dr Douglas has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapter, holds five patents and has conducted over 100 science-related media interviews.
