Sonia Horvat
Sonia is the Director of First-Year Studies and Director of Teaching and Learning in the School of Chemistry. An organometallic computational chemist she completed her PhD on free-radical reaction mechanisms and has since built a career in chemical education. She leads more than 60 educators and coordinates 3500 students annually across 7 large first-year subjects, ensuring high-quality teaching. Sonia has driven curriculum innovation through inquiry based and industry integrated laboratories, Green Lab certification, and inclusive, research-led teaching practices. She is committed to equitable access, student belonging, staff mentoring and preparing the next generation of chemists for a rapidly evolving scientific world.
