Yihan Yan
Yihan Yan is a PhD candidate in Materials Science and Engineering at UNSW Sydney, specializing in piezoelectric polymers, biopolymer functional films, and ion-mediated electromechanical coupling mechanisms. His current research focuses on understanding the intrinsic origin of electromechanical responses in biopolymer systems by distinguishing true piezoelectricity from ion-migration-induced signals. Through comparative studies with PVDF-TrFE ferroelectric polymers, he proposed an ion-interference mechanism to explain controversial piezoelectric-like behaviors reported in biopolymer films. His research combines electrical, mechanical, and structural characterization techniques, including XRD, FTIR, Raman, SEM, XPS, DSC, and DMA. Yihan has co-authored publications in ACS Applied Polymer Materials, Macromolecular Bioscience, and European Polymer Journal.
