Jean Paul HATEGEKIMANA
Jean Paul Hategekimana is a Lecturer in Food Science and Technology at the University of Rwanda, specializing in food safety, food toxicology, and analytical approaches for contaminant detection in food systems. He holds a Master’s degree in Food Safety from Wageningen University & Research, the Netherlands, and is currently finalizing his PhD studies in Agriculture (by research) at the University of Rwanda.
He co-coordinates the University of Rwanda Mycotoxin Laboratory, where his work focuses on the detection and quantification of mycotoxins, particularly aflatoxins in maize value chains. His research emphasizes the application and validation of rapid diagnostic methods alongside laboratory-based analytical techniques to support food safety monitoring in low-resource settings.
Jean Paul has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and leads consultancy projects on laboratory quality systems, including ISO/IEC 17025 and HACCP implementation. He is a member of the International Association for Food Protection and is actively engaged in advancing analytical capacity for food safety in Sub-Saharan Africa.
