Darren Holland

Darren Holland obtained a BSc (Hons) in organic and biochemistry from Griffith University, Gold Coast, Queensland. His PhD was awarded under the supervision of Prof Anthony Carroll and focused on the isolation, structure elucidation, and synthesis of bioactive marine natural products, alongside, cheminformatics analyses of large natural product databases. Darren has completed postdoctoral fellowships with Prof William Fenical at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California San Diego and Assoc Prof Yit-Heng Chooi at the University of Western Australia. He is currently a research fellow working on the Biota Pipeline with A/Prof Gavin Flematti in collaboration with UWA and the Harry Perkins Institute examining WA marine invertebrates for selective liver cancer drug leads. His research interests include NMR structural elucidation, NMR and MS dereplication, MS metabolomics, NP synthesis and biosynthesis, marine chemistry, microbial genomics, and ab initio DFT-NMR and ECD calculations for orthogonal structure determination methods.
